Concrete Sealing FAQs
At Horand Industry, we use the trusted Dulux Avista concrete sealer system to protect and enhance concrete surfaces for homes and businesses. From driveways and patios to pathways and garage floors, our professional sealing service helps prevent stains, wear, and colour fading while maintaining a clean, attractive finish. Below are answers to the most common questions our clients ask about concrete sealing, its benefits, and the process.
What is concrete sealing and why is it important?
Sealing concrete means applying a protective coating over a clean, sound concrete surface to block pores, resist contaminants, and enhance appearance. At Horand Industry we use Dulux Avista’s concrete sealer systems to help your driveway, patio, pathway or garage floor stay cleaner, look sharper and last longer. According to Dulux Avista, their sealers “block the pores of the concrete and … help prevent dirt ingress and can reduce colour‑fading.”
Which surfaces can be sealed?
Almost any concrete surface that is structurally sound, clean and properly prepared can be sealed. That includes driveways, garden paths, pool surrounds, patios, garage floors and commercial walkways. Dulux Avista describes their sealer range as “ideal for any application… driveway, pathway, patio or garage.” At Horand Industry we assess your surface to ensure it’s ready for sealing and select the appropriate product for your application.
Can I choose the look of my sealed concrete?
Yes. While the primary purpose of a sealer is protection, Dulux Avista’s concreate sealers are available in a range of colours.
What preparation is required before sealing?
Proper surface preparation is critical for a long‑lasting result. Our process includes:
-
Cleaning or grinding the surface thoroughly to remove old product, oil, grease, dirt, organic growth and previous coating residue.
-
Repairing any spalls, minor cracks or damaged areas so the sealer bonds uniformly.
-
Ensuring the concrete is dry, stable and free of contaminants.
Once the surface is correctly prepped, we’ll apply the selected Dulux Avista sealer to deliver the finish you expect.
How long does the sealer last and what maintenance is needed?
When applied correctly, a quality concrete sealer will extend the life of your surface by reducing wear, resisting staining and protecting against UV damage, prevent “dirt ingress” and reduce “colour‑fading.” Concrete may require resealing every few years. Maintenance tips include:
-
Regularly sweeping or rinsing to remove grit and debris.
-
Promptly cleaning spills (oil, chemicals) to avoid staining beneath the sealer.
-
Periodically checking for wear and resealing as required (depending on exposure and use).
Horand Industry will advise you on a maintenance schedule tailored to your usage and environment.
Can I apply the sealer myself or do I need a professional?
hile DIY sealer products exist, achieving a high-quality, uniform finish with good durability often requires professional skills and equipment. The performance of your sealed surface depends on proper preparation, correct application and choosing the right product for the substrate. At Horand Industry, our experienced team uses the Dulux Avista system and handles the full process so you get the best result with minimum risk.
How long before I can use the surface after sealing?
Curing times vary depending on product type, ambient temperature, humidity and area size. Typically, light foot traffic may be possible within 24 hours, and vehicle traffic or heavy use after a longer period (generally 48‑72 hours) as directed by the product guidelines and our team. We’ll give you exact timing for your job so you know when normal use can safely resume.
Will sealing fix cracks or structural issues in concrete?
No. Concrete sealing is designed to protect and enhance a sound surface — it is not a structural repair. If the concrete is badly cracked, lifting, or has major movement or subsidence, Horand Industry will assess it first and recommend necessary repairs before applying the sealer. That way, the sealer can perform correctly and your surface will last.
